Notice to members, to attend the June 5 MSPA membership meeting, 7:30 PM.
At the May First meeting, a discussion took place on how to address the previous membership vote to hire an outside firm to conduct an audit of club finances. With approximately 35 members present, a motion was made to advertise that a discussion/vote will be taken at the June 5 meeting, on how best to proceed. The purpose of that motion was to encourage broader attendance, so that more will have the opportunity to discuss the issue and vote on how to address it.
The Audit Committee's search had produced a firm that will do it for $10,000 for two years, or $7,000, if they only do 2018. That was the lowest offer of the firms contacted, which met our criteria for an audit.
Many in attendance at the May meeting, as well as most of the Directors and Officers, feel this was an expense that is unjustified, given protocols already in place to account for the club's handling of funds. In addition, the club also has insurance bonding in the amount of $100,000, to cover any losses due to any mishandling of club funds.
Alternatives to hiring an outside audit firm, include an internal audit consisting of members willing to serve in that capacity, which is something we had done in the past. Please consider coming to the next meeting and taking part in this discussion.
